Who we are
In plain wordsWe run Everydaypot from Nigeria, and we are responsible for your information. Write to hi@everydaypot.com about any of it.
Everydaypot (“we”, “us”) is operated from Nigeria. Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (the NDPA) we are the data controller for the information described on this page, which means we decide what is collected and why, and we answer for it.
Everything on this page — a question, a request to see what we hold, a request to delete it — goes to hi@everydaypot.com. A person reads that address.
What we collect
In plain wordsThe photo you upload, any correction you tap, the three settings you choose, and basic technical information from your device.
We collect only what the product needs to answer your question:
- The photograph you upload. The image of your ingredients, as you send it.
- Your corrections. When we are unsure what an ingredient is and you tell us, we record which answer you chose.
- Your settings. How long you have, how many people are eating, and whether you are cooking on gas or a single burner.
- Technical information. Your IP address, device and browser type, and the time of your request, recorded by our servers and hosting provider in ordinary logs.
We do not ask for your name, your phone number, or an account. We do not want photographs of people, and you should not send them.
This page sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Nothing here tracks you across other websites.
Why we collect it
In plain wordsTo read your ingredients and suggest dishes, and to get better at recognising Nigerian ingredients.
Under section 25 of the NDPA, our lawful bases are:
- Performance of a contract with you — reading your photograph and returning dishes is the service you asked for.
- Your consent — for keeping your corrections as training examples so that ingredient recognition improves. You may withdraw this at any time, and withdrawing it does not stop you using Everydaypot.
- Our legitimate interest — for server logs kept to keep the service running, secure, and free of abuse.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
How long we keep it
In plain wordsYour photograph is deleted after 90 days. The correction you made is kept, but without the picture.
- Photographs: 90 days. Ninety days after you upload it, the image is deleted from our systems and from our backups on their normal cycle.
- Corrections: kept. If you told us something was dried prawn rather than crayfish, we keep that label and the ingredient it refers to. Once the photograph is deleted, the label no longer has a picture attached to it.
- Server logs: kept only as long as they are useful for keeping the service running and free of abuse, and never used to build a picture of you.
You can ask us to delete your photograph or your corrections before those periods are up. See your rights.
Information leaving Nigeria
In plain wordsYour photo may be read on a computer outside Nigeria. We are required to protect it just the same.
Some of the providers above operate outside Nigeria, so your photograph and the information attached to it may be transferred and processed abroad. Those transfers are made under sections 41 to 43 of the NDPA, with the safeguards those sections require, and we remain responsible for your information wherever in the world it is processed. Being outside Nigeria does not put it outside this policy.
Your rights
In plain wordsYou can ask to see what we have, correct it, or have it deleted. It is free, and we answer within 30 days.
Under Part VI of the NDPA you have the right to:
- ask what information we hold about you and get a copy of it;
- have information that is wrong corrected;
- have your information deleted;
- ask us to restrict or stop a particular use;
- object to processing based on our legitimate interest;
- receive your information in a portable form;
- withdraw a consent you gave, at any time, without affecting what came before.
Write to hi@everydaypot.com. We will answer within 30 days and we will not charge you. Because we do not hold your name, tell us roughly when you uploaded so we can find the right record.
If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), the supervisory authority under the NDPA.
Young people
In plain wordsUnder 18? You need a parent or guardian's permission. Under 13, do not use Everydaypot.
Everydaypot is not for children under 13. If you are between 13 and 17, you may use it only with the consent of a parent or guardian, in line with section 31 of the NDPA. If we learn that we hold information from a child under 13, we delete it. A parent or guardian can contact us at hi@everydaypot.com to ask about or delete a young person’s information.
Keeping it safe
In plain wordsWe protect your information with reasonable technical measures, but no system is perfect.
Your photograph travels to us over an encrypted connection and is stored with access limited to the people who need it. We take the measures required by section 39 of the NDPA. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute safety. If a breach occurs that is likely to put you at risk, we will notify the NDPC within 72 hours and tell you as required by section 40.
Changes to this page
In plain wordsIf this changes in a way that matters, we will say so on the page.
We may update this policy. The date at the top always shows the current version, and where a change materially affects your rights we will make that clear on this page before it takes effect.
